We’ve all heard the saying that we should “drink 6-8 glasses of water a day”, but why is it so important to our health and how can drinking water aid with weight loss?  Knowledge is power, if you knew just how drinking water could help benefit your health and aid with weight loss, you would feel much more inclined to make the effort to drink more of it.

In addition, if you don’t drink enough water, your body will hold on to the water it does get which results in bloating and swelling.  This can be a particular problem for women with water retention, so if you want that flatter stomach, you actually need to drink more water throughout the day to stay hydrated and to help flush out toxins from your system.

Keeping your body hydrated and flushing out the toxins from your body by drinking more water will help to prevent headaches, fatigue and irritability, as well as helping to improve your overall concentration.

It’s worth noting that many of us actually mistake the signs our body gives out to us regarding hunger and thirst.  We often feel that we are hungry and reach out for a snack to eat, when in fact we are actually thirsty and what we really should be doing is having a drink of water.  Think about this the next time you think you feel hungry in between meals and try having a glass of water instead of eating a snack and see how you feel then.  You will quite often find that a drink of water is really all you needed.  Being aware of this one tip will greatly benefit your health and aid your weight loss goals.

Try not to drink and eat at the same time.  Drinking with a meal can dilute the stomach acids and upset your digestive system, so it’s best to either drink a little while before a meal or wait a little while after a meal before you have a drink.

If you are trying to introduce exercise into your life to aid your weight loss goals, you should know that drinking plenty of water is important to help replace the fluids that the body sweats out during exercise.  Drinking plenty of water will also help to prevent muscle cramps that can sometimes occur in all exercisers, whether you are new to exercise or not.
