Sunny Health & Fitness SF-B2706 Tornado versus SF-B2640 Air Bike Trainer, Comparison Review

The Sunny Health & Fitness SF-B2706 Tornado and SF-B2640 Air Bikes are well-built exercise bikes that rival many fan bikes in the more expensive categories.

The Sunny Health & Fitness SF-B2706 and SF-B2640 utilize air resistance which works on the premise that the faster/harder you pedal, the more the resistance increases, effectively allowing for unlimited resistance levels.

The Sunny Health & Fitness SF-B2706 Tornado is the higher-end air-bike over the SF-B2640, featuring a larger flywheel at 25” diameter compared to the 17” of the SF-B2640.  Generally speaking, the larger the flywheel, the more air resistance it can create.  The SF-B2640 compensates with the addition of a Resistance Tension Dial Knob for added intensity.

The Sunny Health & Fitness SF-B2706 and SF-B2640 Air Bikes utilize different drive systems, with the SF-B2706 Tornado having a chain drive system while the SF-B2640 utilizes a belt drive system.  The choice of drive system comes down to personal preference, with some people feeling than a chain drive gives a more authentic cycling feel while other people feel a belt drive gives a smoother quieter experience.

The moving handlebars on the Sunny Health & Fitness SF-B2706 and SF-B2640 Air Bikes add an upper body workout to your cycling, giving you an effective low-impact total-body workout that’s easier on your joints compared to many other forms of exercise.  The SF-B2706 has the addition of foot-pegs to place your feet on, giving you the option of resting your legs and just working your arms (the SF-B2640 does not have foot-pegs).

Look at the pictures of these 2 Sunny Health & Fitness air bikes and you’ll see that the design of the moving handlebars is different.  The SF-B2706’s handlebars are ergonomically designed with an angled grip that has been optimized to increase correct muscle engagement in your arms, back and shoulders.  The SF-B2640’s handlebars are designed with double hand grip positions, allowing you to place your hands vertical or horizontal which allows you to work different muscle groups in your arms, shoulders and back.

Both the Sunny Health & Fitness SF-B2706 and SF-B2640 Air Bikes feature a 4-way adjustable seat that adjusts up/down/forwards/backwards, allowing for a custom fit for different rider heights.  The way the seat adjusts forwards and backwards allows you to get closer or further away from the handlebars and the up and down adjustments gives you a comfortable reach from the saddle to the pedals.  The measurements are different between these 2 air bikes, with the SF-B2706 allowing for an inseam range of between 29.5”and 42.25”, while the SF-B2640 allows for a shorter inseam range of between 25.5” and 35.5”.  (See full dimensions in the tables below.)

Both the Sunny Health & Fitness SF-B2706 Tornado and SF-B2640 Air Bike Trainers come with an easy-to-use LCD digital fitness monitor that displays various workout stats to keep you motivated as you exercise.  The monitor on the SF-B2706 has more advanced features that the SF-B2640 does not have, including Bluetooth compatible heart-rate monitoring (heart-rate strap not included) as well as target and interval programs.  (See full features in the tables below.)

Being the premium air bike, the Sunny Health & Fitness SF-B2706 allows for a higher user weight capacity of up to 330 lbs compared to 250 lbs on the SF-B2640.

Both air bikes utilize self-generated power so you don’t have to worry about finding a space for the bike near a wall/socket.  Both bikes come with integrated transport wheels for easy relocation/storage.
