XTERRA Fitness FB150 versus FB350 Folding Exercise Bike, Comparison Review

As you can see from the pictures, the main difference between the Xterra Fitness FB150 and FB350 Exercise Bikes comes down to the design of the seat – the FB350’s seat features a lower backrest along with handles by the side of the seat which the FB150 doesn’t have.  This enables you to use the bike in a semi-recumbent position for a more laid-back feel or you can sit upright and hold onto the handlebars around the console as with the FB150 for a more traditional cycling experience.

Xterra FB350 oversized seat with backrest

Other differences between the Xterra Fitness FB150 and FB350 Exercise Bikes include a slight difference in overall dimensions and weight of the bike, with the FB150 having a slightly smaller footprint and weighing slightly less than the FB350 (see full dimensions listed in the table below).

The Xterra FB350 also has the addition of a handy accessory holder mounted on the frame which the FB150 does not have.

Xterra FB350 accessory holder

Apart from the different features mentioned above, the rest of the Xterra Fitness FB150 and FB350’s features are exactly the same.  Both exercise bikes are straightforward and easy to use with the same console and drivetrain.

Both the Xterra Fitness FB150 and FB350 Folding Exercise Bikes’ drivetrain utilize a 3.3 lb precision balanced flywheel, smooth belt drive system and quiet friction-free magnetic resistance.

Both the Xterra FB150 and FB350 exercise bikes offer a good range of 8 levels of magnetic resistance which is easily adjustable via a simple-to-use turn dial knob located on the frame in front of you underneath the console.  You are in total control of your workout – start off at a low setting and increase the intensity when you feel ready to keep challenging yourself.

Xterra FB150 & FB350's resistance dial knob

As previously mentioned, the Xterra Fitness FB150 and FB350 Exercise Bikes both utilize the same console.  The console is battery operated (no need to find a space near a wall socket/power outlet to place your bike!) and features a 2” x 1” LCD screen that clearly displays motivating workout stats as you cycle including time, speed, distance, calories burned and heart rate.  Your heart-rate is measured via pulse grip sensors built into the handlebars each side of the console.

Xterra FB150 & FB350's LCD console &
multi-grip handlebars with pulse sensors

Comfort features on both the Xterra Fitness FB150 and FB350 Exercise Bikes include a large padded seat and padded handlebars.  The handlebars around the console offer multi-grip positions for different hand placement and the seat on both bikes is adjustable for different user heights ranging from around 4ft 10” up to 5ft 10” tall.

Both the Xterra Fitness FB150 and FB350 Exercise Bikes feature non-slip pedals and adjustable foot straps for safety.  Both bikes also utilize a 3-piece pedal crank system for added durability.

Both the Xterra Fitness FB150 and FB350 Exercise Bikes feature an x-frame folding design to help save even more space when not in use.  The FB150 folds to a slightly smaller footprint than the FB350 - 18.1 x 18.1” for the FB150 compared to 20.5 x 21” for the FB350 folded.  Both bikes also feature front-mounted transport wheels for ease of relocation.

The Xterra Fitness FB150 and FB350 Folding Exercise Bikes are both sturdily constructed with thick steel tubing solid x-frame and support a user weight capacity of up to 225 lbs.

The Nautilus MY18 U618 is the premium exercise bike over the Nautilus MY18 U616 and as you would expect offers several upgrades in design and features and is built to withstand more intensive training like HIIT for serious athletes.  From the Nautilus Performance Series range, the Nautilus MY18 U618 Exercise Bike’s upgraded features include:

·         A heavy-duty 30 lb flywheel
·         Multi-grip positions handlebars
·         Larger elbow rests
·         In-reach controls at the top of the handlebars
·         Gel-cushioned saddle
·         Dual water bottle holders
·         Higher user weight capacity of 325 lbs
·         Top-of-the-range tilt-adjust SightLine console for best viewing angle
·         STN display for better visual colors that’s easier on the eyes

(See table/bullet points below for full features and specifications compared.)

However, the Nautilus MY18 U616 is still an impressive exercise bike (ideal for moderate training) and offers many of the same features as the U618 such as 4 user profiles, 25 ECB magnetic resistance levels, 29 programs (program variety may differ – see details in the table below), and Bluetooth connectivity for online fitness tracking.

Although the Nautilus MY18 U618’s SightLine console is considered to be the best in the fitness industry, the Nautilus MY18 U616’s console incorporates many of the same premium features including Dual Track blue backlit display, integrated media shelf, acoustic chambered speakers, MP3 input, USB charging port, 3-speed cooling fan.

Both the Nautilus MY18 U618 and Nautilus MY18 U616’s consoles display motivating workout stats including time, speed, distance, calories and heart-rate.  Both bikes offer contact pulse and telemetry heart-rate monitoring to help you stay within your target heart-rate zone as you cycle.

Both the Nautilus MY18 U618 and Nautilus MY18 U616 Upright Bikes are ergonomically designed for user comfort but if you look closely at the pictures of these two bikes you’ll see the differences in the design of the handlebars and the saddles.

The Nautilus MY18 U618’s handlebars are designed with multi-grip positions so you can find the most comfortable position for your hands or place your hands in different grip positions to focus on different muscles.  Note the larger elbow rests on the Nautilus MY18 U618 too.  The Nautilus MY18 U616 also has elbow rests (though smaller) which is a bonus as most exercise bikes in this price bracket don’t have extra touches like that.  Both bikes’ handlebars are angle adjustable.

The Nautilus MY18 U618 has the advantage of In-Reach controls in the top of the bike’s handlebars for quick resistance changes, which the Nautilus MY18 U616 doesn’t have (though of course you can change the resistance via the console).

If you look at the pictures of the saddles you’ll see that the Nautilus MY18 U618 is gel-cushioned (cushions the glutes for a more comfortable ride over longer periods) whereas the Nautilus MY18 U616’s saddle is padded.  Both saddles are 4-way adjustable, i.e. up, down, forwards, backwards for a custom fit for different rider heights.

Both the Nautilus MY18 U618 and Nautilus MY18 U616 Upright Exercise Bikes are sturdily built and feature integrated levelers for added stability.  The higher-end Nautilus MY18 U618 allows for a slightly higher user weight capacity of 325 lbs compared to the U616’s 300 lbs.

Both exercise bikes come with a generous warranty to reflect the manufacturer’s confidence in their long-term durability, but as you would expect the higher-end U618 has a longer warranty of 15 years on frame, 3 years on parts/electronics and 1 year labor compared to the U616’s 10 years on frame, 2 years on parts, 1 year on electronics and 90 days labor.

Fitness tip:  Cycling for just 30 minutes could burn between 207-345 calories for women, or 252-420 calories for men, depending on the intensity of the cycling.

Let’s take a glance below at the main differences and similarities in features and specifications laid out in tables and bullet points for easy comparison between the Nautilus MY18 U618 and Nautilus MY18 U616 to help you decide on which is the best upright exercise bike for you:

Being the higher-end bike, the Schwinn MY17 170 is constructed for more heavy-duty use and as such has some premium features over the MY16 130, including an upgraded crank system (3-piece compared to 1-piece) and over-sized pedals compared to standard pedals.

Both of the Schwinn upright bikes feature angle adjustable handlebars, but the Schwinn MY17 170 also features forearm rests for added comfort.

The seat on both bikes is contoured and padded for comfort with an easy seat-exchange system.  Both seats are adjustable up/down for different user heights, but the Schwinn MY17 170 has the advantage of also being adjustable fore/aft for a more custom fit.

The Schwinn MY16 130 and Schwinn MY17 170 exercise bikes come with an updated console compared to the older 2013 models and has been designed to be more user friendly, while still retaining all the high-end features.  Both consoles feature Dual Track LCD displays but the Schwinn MY17 170 has the advantage of being blue-backlit for better viewing and has the addition of Bluetooth connectivity which the Schwinn 130 and older models do not have.

Both the Schwinn MY16 130 and Schwinn MY17 170 feature pulse grip heart-rate sensors in the handlebars to help you keep within your target heart-rate zone.  The Schwinn MY17 170 also offers telemetry-enabled heart-rate monitoring (wireless chest heart-rate strap available separately).

Additional features on both the Schwinn MY16 130 and Schwinn MY17 170 include acoustic chamber speakers with MP3 input, media shelf, 3-speed cooling fan, and water bottle holder.

The Schwinn MY16 130 and Schwinn MY17 170 exercise bikes are both well-constructed with 2 integrated levelers for added stability and support a maximum user weight capacity of up to 300 lbs.  Both bikes come with transportation wheels for easy relocation.
