Summary

Both the StairMaster StepMills are solidly designed and offer a great way to workout – improve your cardio, build your stamina, tone muscle, and lose weight.  The StairMaster StepMill SM3 is considered to be more for home or light commercial use with its smaller design to take up less space.  The StairMaster StepMill SM5 is larger and built for more intensive use and is considered for its size to most closely duplicate the workout of real stair climbing.  For many people, the StairMaster StepMill SM3 would be more than adequate for their needs, especially for home use, and comes at a much lower price than the SM5.  However, if you have the space and want a machine for more intensive use, then opt for the StairMaster StepMill SM5.
