Comparing Inspire Fitness CS4 vs CS3 vs CS2.5 Cardio Strider, What's the Difference?

Similar to the recumbent elliptical machines found in many physical therapy clinics, the Inspire Fitness CS4, CS3 and CS2.5 Cardio Striders are designed to help improve your physical movement (for both upper and lower body) without the impact on your joints typically associated with many other types of exercise.

The Inspire Fitness CS4, CS3 and CS2.5 Cardio Striders engage both upper and lower body muscles for a complete workout with moving handlebars that can be adjusted and linear path pedals that offer a stride length range of between 12” and 15” (based on foot position).

The linear path pedals of the Cardio Striders offer simple back and forth reciprocating leg movement with your feet placed in front of you instead of below as with traditional exercise bikes.  This unique design helps to improve circulation and strengthen your glutes and leg muscles whilst being easier on your joints as hip rotation is minimized and knee stress is reduced.

The moving handlebars of the Cardio Striders help to strengthen your arms and upper body muscles and can be used in isolation or in combination with the foot pedals.  The handlebars are uniquely designed to be flipped between an upright or vertical position, allowing you to switch between workouts that target your chest/back or biceps/triceps.

The Inspire Fitness CS4, CS3 and CS2.5 Cardio Striders all utilize a Silent Poly V-Belt drive and friction-free electro-magnetic resistance system that combine to provide smooth and quiet operation.  Each of the Cardio Striders offer 20 levels of resistance to keep you challenged.  You can choose from a variety of preset programs or select Quick Start for manual mode to put yourself in total control of your workout.

The Inspire Fitness CS4 is the premium Cardio Strider and, as you would expect, offers several upgrades in design and features over the CS3 and CS2.5, including more preset programs (12 vs 10 vs 8), more user profiles, a motorized seat height adjustment (instead of manual adjustment), and a 180 degree swivel seat for easy access.  (See full features and specifications compared in the tables below.)

blue backlit LCD screen
All 3 Cardio Striders come with an LCD monitor that displays motivating workout stats as you exercise, but the CS4 and CS3 screens are blue-backlit whereas the CS2.5 screen isn’t.  The CS2.5 doesn’t offer heart-rate monitoring like the CS4 and CS3 which both offer contact pulse and telemetry heart-rate monitoring to help you stay within your target heart-rate zone.

The Inspire Fitness CS4, CS3 and CS2 Cardio Striders are all sturdily constructed and feature front and rear stabilizers for added stability and leveling on uneven floors.  Additional features on all 3 Cardio Striders include an integrated media shelf, water bottle holder (dual holder on CS4), child safety lock, and rear transport wheels.

The Inspire Fitness CS4 and CS3 are designed for both home and light-commercial use whereas the CS2.5 is the more basic model designed for home use only.

Let’s take a look at the main differences and similarities in features between the Inspire Fitness CS4 versus CS3 versus CS2.5 to help you decide on which is the best Cardio Strider for you:

Both the Schwinn 130 and Schwinn 170 utilize a high-speed high-inertia perimeter weighted flywheel together with ECB (Eddy Current Brake) magnetic resistance system for a smooth and quiet workout.

The Schwinn 130 and Schwinn 170's consoles have 2 LCD display windows but differ slightly in that the Schwinn 170 has a blue backlit display which the Schwinn 130 does not have.  Both consoles display motivating workout stats such as time, speed, distance, calories burned and pulse heart-rate.  The Schwinn 170 is also telemetry enabled for your own heart-rate monitor but the Schwinn 130 is not.

In addition, both the Schwinn 130 and Schwinn 170 feature USB charging and data export, along with performance tracking with Goal Tracker.  The Schwinn 170 has the advantage of being Bluetooth compatible for seamless transition of workout data to online fitness tracking apps (although the Schwinn 130 does not have Bluetooth, you can still transfer workout data via the USB port).

Bowflex M3 vs M5 vs M7 Max Trainers, Comparison Review

What is a Bowflex Max Trainer?

The Bowflex M3, M5 and M7 Max Trainers are cardio machines that engage both the upper and lower body for a total body workout that is highly effective yet low-impact on your joints.

Renowned for their HIIT training (high intensity interval training), the Bowflex Max Trainers are designed to give you all the cardio benefits of a much longer workout  – the M3, M5 and M7 all feature the Max 14 Min Interval Program for maximum results in a shorter space of time.

Benefits of working out with a Bowflex Max Trainer include improving your cardio health and increasing your overall stamina, strength and endurance.

Benefits of a Bowflex Max Trainer compared to an Elliptical

Working out on a Bowflex Max Trainer can burn up to 2.5x more calories compared to a standard elliptical trainer and engages more muscle groups (more core, lower & upper body muscles) for better overall results.  In actual fact, you can use up to 80% more upper body muscle with a Max Trainer compared to an Elliptical.

The Bowflex M3 vs M5 vs M Max Trainers Compared

So now that you know what a Max Trainer is, what’s the difference between the M3, M5 and M7 cardio machines and how do they compare?

To begin with, the Max Trainer M7 is the premium machine with commercial-grade construction and offers more resistance levels, more program variety, more user profiles and upgraded design features compared to the M5 and M3 machines.

The Max Trainer M5 sits in the middle of the range, while the M3 is the more basic model with less resistance range and only 2 programs.

As previously mentioned, all 3 of the Bowflex Max Trainers feature the renowned Max 14 Min Intervals Program and a Manual Mode that puts you in control.

Max Trainer M7's monitor, image, with dual display backlit enhanced LCD/LED screen, 4 user profiles, Bluetooth, 11 programs, 20 resistance levels
Max Trainer M7's monitor
The Max Trainer M7 offers 11 programs in total, while the M5 offers 9 programs.  The M7 offers the greatest resistance range of 20 levels, while the M5 offers 16 levels and the M3 offers 8 levels.  (See tables below for full list of programs and other features and specifications compared.)

The Max Trainer M7 allows for up to 4 user profiles so 4 different people can use the machine on a regular basis and keep track of their workouts, while the M5 and M3 both allow for 2 user profiles.

The display screens on the monitors of the Max Trainers differ, with the M7 having the best with its dual display backlit enhanced LCD/LED screen.  The M5 features a backlit LCD/LED display while the M3 features a standard LCD/LED display.

The Max Trainer's M7 and M5 monitors are both Bluetooth compatible so you can connect to the free Max Trainer App for online fitness tracking, which is a feature that the M3 does not have.  All of the monitors feature target-zone and burn-rate indicators.

All 3 of the Max Trainers offer telemetry heart-rate monitoring, but the M7 and M5 also have the addition of contact heart-rate monitoring.

Other differences between the 3 Max Trainers include differences in design of the handlebar grips and foot pedals, with the M7 having commercial-grade / sports performance designs.

Fitness Tip:  HIIT (high intensity interval training) involves short bursts of intensive exercise followed by longer periods of less intensive activity or periods of rest.  HIIT delivers an “afterburn” effect – increased metabolism with which your body continues to burn calories for hours after your workout has finished
