How the Keiser M5i’s Eddy Current Resistance Works:

The Keiser M5i’s Eddy Current is generated by 2 opposing magnets passing over the flywheel, i.e. the flywheel acting as the conductor passes through the magnetic field that is generated by the magnets.  You can thus increase or decrease the amount of resistance by varying how much of the flywheel comes into contact with the magnetic field – the less contact the flywheel has with the magnetic field, the lighter the resistance will be and the easier it will for the rider to pedal, while the more contact the flywheel has with the magnetic field will result in heavier resistance making it harder for the rider to pedal.  As no parts in the resistance system actually touch, there is no wear-and-tear on the system.
